Hospital
VAN GYNECOLOGY BIRTH AND CARDIOVASCULAR HOSPITAL
The 500-bed Branch Hospital was planned following the 2011 Van earthquake as an extension to the existing 400-bed General Hospital, establishing a direct connection between the two facilities. Given the high seismic risk of the region, the hospital is designed with a seismic isolation system that separates the upper structure from the basement level through seismic isolators.
The approximately 25,000 m² building is designed with only one expansion joint, enabled by the structural system. The basement level is primarily allocated to parking, supporting the functional organization of the hospital above.
Climate conditions are another key consideration shaping the architectural design. The roof is conceived as a continuous element that extends across the building and transitions into the façade at the third-floor level. Its sloping geometry continues along the patient ward areas, giving the building a distinctive architectural identity and forming one of the primary elements of the overall design concept.
