RIZE GUNEYSU STATE HOSPITAL

The 100-bed Rize Güneysu Hospital Campus comprises three buildings: the Psychiatric Hospital, General Hospital, and Technical Service Building. Located on a 36,000 m² site in Güneysu, Rize, the campus responds to its surrounding urban fabric, Güneysu Stream, and the forested landscape rising to the northeast.

The relationship between the city and the surrounding landscape plays a central role in the orientation and massing of the buildings. Building heights respond to the scale of the existing urban fabric and topography, while hipped roofs, masonry stone at ground level, and timber elements on the façades reinterpret characteristics of traditional regional architecture. The healthcare complex, with an enclosed area of approximately 22,500 m², is positioned in accordance with the site orientation and the existing settlement pattern.

Campus entrances are located on the side facing the town, while social and communal spaces surrounded by patient rooms are oriented toward the forest. This organization creates a clear relationship between public access and the more private, landscape-oriented areas of the campus.

The Psychiatric Hospital is designed around human-scale open, semi-open, and enclosed spaces that encourage active and productive patient circulation. Patient accommodation is organized into day and night zones around an internal courtyard, supporting daily activities and access to shared spaces. The overall architectural language remains simple and restrained, reinforcing the human scale of the campus.
